The start of my fitness journey began in February of 2013. There was, however, a problem. Every time I went to the gym I felt intimidated and found myself overwhelmed by the feeling of being lost and without any sense of direction. Luckily, a short time later., I was introduced to the idea of group exercise, specifically Zumba®. In a truly judgement free zone, I quickly found myself being able to focus on my goals and comfortable in doing so because it’s the perfect combination of exercise and one of my true passions, dance.
During the summer of 2014 I attended an event called Zumbathon® for Autism and a feeling of inspiration came over me; it was such a positive atmosphere.
The event raised money and awareness for a cause that is very near and dear to me. As an attendee, I became motivated to become licensed to teach in the hopes of hosting other events of the same caliber.
I’ve discovered that hosting and being a part of these events, is a way of doing something in dedication to two of the most important kids in my life, my nephews Landon and Hunter, who are both diagnosed on the spectrum.
After receiving my license to teach Zumba Fitness® in October 2014, I began my first class in January of 2015 and was quickly able to host my first ever event on April 12th, 2015 and it was a complete success!
Now that the Charity will take place annually, I have no words to describe how elated I am and I only foresee the event growing EVERY year.
I look forward to another amazing day of Zumba Fitness® with all of you and to be able to spread awareness and raise money for such an amazing, local charity for the Autism Community.
